COURSE DESCRIPTION
Please note that the course can change even up to the last minute...please verify race course on the day of the event!

Please note that the Winter Park Resort bast area will play host to the rescheduled race. Registration, refreshments and awards will take place at Winter Park Resort base area. The start and finish locations have not changed.

We are excited to roll out this really cool, new, epic course. It is a mountain top circuit featuring the longest sustained descent in the series, great technical riding through Jackalope, and some of the freshest single track in the Winter Park/Fraser Valley over the Roof of the Rockies trail. Don’t be fooled by the vertical drop, this course will challenge every rider and is unlike any other course on the circuit. You won’t want to miss this one. On race day, racers will ride the Zephyr chair lift with their bikes to access the start. To pre-ride the course, you can either purchase a bike transport ticket to ride the lift, or ride up the mountain road or on Icarus to access the start. Check it out:

UPDATED COURSE ROUTE:

This course is unlike any other you've ridden in our series.  It covers some of the least ridden trail in the valley, and it is simply spectacular.  Definitely try to pre-ride, it is full of (fun) tricks.

START: The start has been moved to the mountain road at the top of the Olympia lift to make the lap zone less confusing.  To get there from the top of the Zephyr, follow the sign to Long Trail, and when you hit the road turn left and climb about ¼ mile to the top of the Olympia lift.  The start will be across from the Mary Jane sign.

  • Climb .75 miles up the mountain road.
  • Turn left onto Upper Roof of the Rockies at a left hand switch back on the mountain road, there is a sign on the right of the road, and a blue arrow on the left where you'll enter singletrack.
  • After a little bit, the singletrack opens up right next to the road, watch out for a quick right onto narrow singletrack to stay on the trail (unmarked for pre-riding, we'll put an arrow here when we mark the course on Thursday).
  • Eventually you'll end up right next to the start on singletrack.  Continue straight ahead on the singletrack.
  • After a quarter mile or so, you'll see two blue arrows that seem to shortcut the trail.  Follow these arrows for the straight line onto Long Trail.
  • Ride across the mountain road onto Long Trail.  Stay on Long Trail until it spills out onto another road, just above the base of the High Lonesome chairlift.  As soon as it hits road, take a hard left and start climbing.  This road section is called Gunbarrel.
  • Ride past the top of another chairlift (Pioneer Express) and onto good rolling doubletrack.  This becomes Lower Roof of the Rockies.  At Fantasy Meadow, continue straight on Lower Roof, don't turn right.
  • At the next trail intersection, bear right.  There is no sign here, you'll see an empty signpost with pink ribbon, that sign should say Upper Roof of the Rockies.
  • You have a bit over one mile of good climbing on Upper Roof of the Rockies until you hit Icarus.  The Icarus intersection is about 100 feet before you get back to the road where you started the lap.  The lap is 4.1 miles long.  Beginners head up Icarus after their first lap, sport and Clydesdale after their second lap, and expert and pro after their third lap.  It is a sharp right turn into a steep section of climb, gear down.
  • Icarus starts with some tough climbing, then levels out and opens up to the best views in the whole series.  Enjoy this section!
  • Hit the road, and drop down the road to the right.  Fast road section all the way until you get to the base of the old Timberline chairlift.  As soon as you see this, get ready for a quick left turn and switch gears!
  • Off the road and onto narrow, hidden singletrack with a hidden 90 degree turn to the left in the bushes right away.  You definitely have to shift your focus from the fast road descent.
  • Now this section of Icarus is what you'll dream about for many nights to come, just plain fun descending with some flat sections and short climbs for good measure.  NO SHORTCUTTING!  Cheaters are not welcome here.  Enjoy the trail the way it was meant to be ridden.
  • After some technical descending, you'll get on the road at the base of the Sunnyside chairlift.  A sharp left and around the left side of the lift terminal will deliver you to a fast, steep road descent.  Be smart here.  We will put up a couple speed control shikanes for the race (they'll be visible on Thursday), with the first at the first skier slow sign on the left of the road.
  • When you see a big ski trail sign, you'll bear right down into the Corona parking lot.  Cross the parking lot and road to Mary Jane.  Straight across the road, Jackalope starts you straight up a hill.  Gear down ahead of time!!
  • Thought you were done?  Not at all.  Jackalope is a cool, technical, primitive trail with tricky climbs and descents.  Reminder for the race if you can't ride it, walk on the side of the trail.  Riders have the right of way over walkers.  We'll get some extra marking in here for the race (put up on Thursday), it's easy to find your way if you are paying attention, but you have to pay attention!
  • You'll exit Jackalope onto the Mary Jane Road.  Follow it around and to the right and the finish will be right by the black arrow.
  • Need to ride back to the base of Winter Park?  Take the little service road straight across from that black arrow (before the paved bridge), it goes up about 50 yards and then you'll bear right and down under the bridge to Winter Park.

NEW DISTANCES:
